Glossary

In the product descriptions from this collection you may come across some additional terms and abbreviations that need a bit explanation. Below you'll find more info on a few of those abbreviations.

What is PFAS?

PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl which is a group of chemicals that are added to products to make them moisture and grease resistant. Studies are showing that PFAS never fully degrade or compost and traces of PFAS can be found in pretty much everything around us including the environment. Products with no intentionally added PFAS are tested to ensure there are less than 100 parts per million of PFAS.

What is ASTM?

ASTM stands for American Society for Testing and Materials. There are two ASTM standards that many of our products containing bioplastics like PLA are tested for. ASTM D6400 tests products that I primarily made from bioplastics to ensure they can be composted at Municipal or Industrial Facilities. ASTM D6868 is very similar but focuses on products made from other materials that are lined with bioplastics.
