Below you'll find some brief explanations for terms and abbreviations that can be found throughout the product listings in this collection.

What is ASTM?

ASTM stands for American Society for Testing and Materials. There are two ASTM standards that many of our products containing bioplastics like PLA are tested for. ASTM D6400 tests products that are primarily made from bioplastics to ensure they can be composted at Municipal or Industrial Facilities. ASTM D6868 is very similar but focuses on products made from other materials that are lined with bioplastics.

What is PET?

PET is a recyclable clear plastic known as Polyethylene Terephthalate. Products containing PET can be identified by looking at the arrows forming a triangle. PET products will have a #1 in the middle. This particular plastic is commonly used to make plastic bottle containers and cups, and in our case clear lids for our molded fiber bowls. PET is non-toxic and 100% recyclable (but always double check your local guidelines!). Learn More
